Would it be terribly egotistical of me to provide a link for a story I have just written? Well whatever, here it is…
The Five Stages of the Process of Seeking Proof of the Existence of Speed Pigeons
I like to write silly stories! – as readers of my fiction may have noticed. May I at this point suggest that everyone should write a silly story every once in a while? A silly story a day (or thereabouts) keeps the overbearing seriousness of life away…
When I say “silly,” I mean just that… Don’t think, don’t plan, don’t try and make it actually mean anything. Don’t worry about logic, sense or what is or isn’t possible. Just have fun!
Completing a story, of whatever sort, is immensely satisfying. You can go back and edit, if you like, or just leave it as it is, maybe come back to it later to have a laugh at the pure unadulterated silliness of it all. Write to enjoy the process, and if it turns out you’ve produced a steaming pile of turkey turds, throw it away and forget about it… and then write again!
If you want to make money out of writing, there are all sorts of processes you have to go through, criteria you have to meet, in order to give you/your work a chance – and it is work; it is something to be approached with earnestness and industry… if you want to make money out of it.
But if not…
Put on your Silly Hat, take a big gulp of Nonsense Juice and explore hitherto un-scaled heights on the Mountain of Inanity!
