As I stepped off the train this morning and followed the crowd of commuters, to the escalator, to the ticket barrier, to the city centre, to the working day, I felt the urge to turn around and walk the other way. It was a strong urge, almost overwhelming – to walk back down the track, to home and beyond. It was, pretty much, a pointless urge; an impossible metaphorical dream… but then I thought: how much energy would it take, how fast would one have to travel, to escape the gravity of mundanity? And it occurred to me that consciousness, unconstrained by physicality, can travel at impossible speeds, and suddenly all things became possible… 🙂
